Subject:  Not Innocent, But Not Guilty Either

James 2:10 - "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."

My wife, the lawyer, always makes a fundamental correction to my statement whenever we're talking about the verdict on some court case.  I'm prone to say, "he or she was found innocent," to which she always responds, "no they can only be found not guilty.  They are never found innocent."

The message is a powerful one when it comes to believers and the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ.  See Jesus came and died because we were all guilty and then His death didn't mean that we were innocent.  As a matter of fact, there is much that I probably do every day for which I am once again guilty.  In other words, I'm still not being found innocent.  But it's the blood of Christ by which I stand declared Not Guilty!

Today, understand that we are not innocent, but if we have been found in Christ, we are NOT GUILTY!
