Subject: Heart Check
Matthew 6:21 - "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
In football there is a term to describe the circumstance when your back is against the wall and the odds are stacked against you. They call it a "gut check." It means that the circumstance will tell whether or not you have "the gut" to get through it.
God does the same thing with us. It's called a "heart check" and for many, it is tough going right now. Some call it a financial crisis and some call it wall street turmoil. I call it God trying the hearts of men to see whether they have their treasure where it should be.
My wife and I were talking and wondering, when did this become a crisis? I think the real answer is that this began a long time ago when God said for people not to put their treasure in things that rust and decay, but instead to put their treasure in heaven where their treasure can't decay or be stolen.
Today if you are painfully upset about your treasure being stolen, you have failed the heart check and God has given you a chance to fix it. Thank God for the heart check.
