Subject: Because God Prioritizes Life
Leviticus 24:21 - "And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death"
As expected, the devotional about abortion got a whole lot of response and quite a bit of discussion. In one conversation I had, I identified what I think is a clear principle of scripture. That principle is that God has ordered and prioritized all life. What does that mean? It seems to me that God has made human life more important than animal life. Note the verse above. A killed beast was simply to be replaced with another one, but someone who murdered another man was to be put to death. Anyway you look at that, the life of man is more important.
I believe that point is important to recognize, because I believe that God values life more highly than most everything. Not just more highly than the life of animals, but more than your house, your car, your paycheck and other things. In my discussion yesterday, I was asked to compare abortion with a number of other heinous acts and asked if they were more greater or lesser crimes than abortion and while the acts were vile, they were acts perpetrated on living people. Therefore when I answered each question, I quite readily responded that abortion was the greater crime.
Why is abortion the greater crime? Because God has prioritized life and in His order, everything begins with life. Without life, nothing else matters. The priority/order is life and then everything else begins. You never ever get to crimes, gifts of love or anything else if you terminate the order and in that order, life is first.
