Subject: Lose Your Light And Life
Matthew 16:25 - "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it."
When Hurricane Ike had done all of its damage more than a week ago, it left behind almost all of the Houston metropolitan area in utter darkness. The energy company reported that it lost electricity to 2.3 million customers. That represented most everyone in this area. While some are now beginning to grumble and complain about still being without power, I think the majority of the stories tell of how God brought uncharacteristically cool weather to the area right behind the loss of power. Coincidence? I think not.
Sometimes God has to show us that He provides and that it's not all of the amenities that we've afforded ourselves. Perhaps we don't really think of electricity as an amenities but instead a basic necessity, but I think God says to us, "I'm all you really need," then He goes on to show us that.
I looked at the verse above and thought about how if you simply changed the word "life" for the word "light" it works for those who experienced God's grace during the recent hurricane. For when we lost our light, we realized that we don't need electricity for the "light of life."
If you have the "light of life" you will realize that with or without electricity, you're still powered. Lose your lights today and begin to really see God.
