Subject:  The Real Election

1 Thessalonians 1:4 - "Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God."

As the Presidential Election nears, it seems to be getting a bit more vicious.  I'm not really talking about between the candidates, but between ordinary citizens and celebrities.  In recent days, I've heard quite a few people on the news bashing and demeaning one candidate or the other.  I'm always amazed by people who feel like the world has ended when their "candidate of choice" loses the election.  When the current President was elected in 2000, Barbara Streisand said just prior to the contest that if he were elected, she would move to another country.  She's still here.  I think the big problem here is that people don't understand that the person chosen to lead this country, does not change their greater purpose in this world.

Election is a special word when it comes to believers.  Like our election of the president, as we the people make a choice to decide who will lead our country, election for believers is a choice made by God to decide those who will carry out His purpose.  I think that those who get overly dependent on the outcome of our Presidential elections are ignorant of the election they should have.

Today, like anyone, I have a favorite in the Presidential election and I get a chance to choose that person.  Whether that person wins or not, I've already won the biggest election there is and while some may think I had the deciding vote, mine wasn't the important one.  He chose me.
