Subject: The Rescues
Psalms 37:39 - 40 "But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him."
Perhaps I think a bit too deeply sometimes, but I always think that God has spared me from some great calamity and that He is showing me how His grace has kept me and sustained me. I chronicle a few events here.
1. 2001 - I wasn't in the Pentagon but "coincidentally" across the street at the Navy Annex and was probably one of the first to view the burning Pentagon as I ran outside right after the impact.
2. 2003-2004 - Numerous episodes where bombs and attacks happened to areas that I had frequented in some cases only hours before. Of course everyone was escaping in Iraq so that one can be explained, or can it?
3. September 2004 - While attending a convention in New Orleans, I became stranded with no ride out (all rental vehicles gone and all flights canceled). A hurricane is headed straight for us, not unlike Katrina. I am poised on the 3rd floor of a downtown hotel and they estimate that it could come that high. Strangely enough, the hurricane turns at the last minute and New Orleans escapes, that time.
You ever get that feeling that God has real purpose for your life and so He continually rescues you? There are many people of God who don't escape catastrophes. However, when we do, we know that it is nothing but the grace of almighty God who delivers us and saves us from certain disaster. After the life I've lived, it doesn't take too much for me to know that God is indeed my rock and surely He is my salvation and rescuing me from the physical stuff is just the beginning.
