Subject: Your First Decision
Matthew 4:20-21 - "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him"
Almost overnight, Presidential contender John McCain surged past fellow contender, Barack Obama, in most all of the daily tracking polls. This wasn't due to any great new policies or plans that he articulated, but instead based on his selection of Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, as a running mate. Whereas many of his own supporters previously questioned his position on some issues, they now applaud him for having keen decision-making ability.
All of this makes a very important point. The first and best decision you can make in life is deciding who you will "hang" with. Who will be your close associates, friends and pals? These people will ultimately impact you and you will surely impact them. With that in mind, what is the impact that you are receiving from those around you today? And conversely, what is the impact that you are having on those around you today? Both are important questions that need to be answered. The answer may lead you to make other decisions concerning your associates.
Peter and Andrew had the option of seeing Jesus pass by, beckoning them to follow and then squarely rejecting his offer of association. Everyone has that offer today. This is the first decision toward determining your destiny. If you choose wrongly on this count, you're going to lose more than a presidential election. You're going to lose your life.
