Subject: Still Being Written
1Kings 11:41 - "And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?"
The Bible is complete and total in its revelation of God. However, our story is still being written. What will happen in my life? Will I remain faithful and true to the Almighty who has been my rock or will I turn away and forsake Him like the kings of Israel so often did? It's quite interesting to think about. When trials hit, I often think of Job and how perhaps Satan today is going before God asking that he be allowed to try me. Perhaps God is saying yes because He knows that He is able to restore anything that Satan can destroy. Of course this is one of the purposes of God's word, that it might edify us and give us peace about the work of God, but we have to know it in order to gain that peace.
How could we know that God can save us out of the belly of a fish had we not heard of Jonah? How could we know that He is trying us like Job without that story? Better yet, once we know, how will we respond? I think that if we understand that our story will one day be played back as if being read in a book, then we might think about our responses to some of our circumstances.
Yes, the bible is complete, but our story is still being written. What kind of character will you be? Faithful or faithless?
