Subject: God Does Not Lie
Romans 3:4 - "God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
I don't mind dating myself so let's reflect for just a second. Remember the cartoon "Fat Albert"? It was a great show done by Bill Cosby and it always carried some really great moral themes. I remember one show where a new boy moved into town and everyone tried to befriend him. Soon, however, everyone realized that he had a little problem with the truth. He simply couldn't seem to tell it, even on simple things. We all can probably relate to someone that we know like that. If we reflect deeply enough, perhaps we know that person all too well. It can sometimes be us.
That would be bad enough if that was the limit of the effects of a lying tongue, but because we perceive that of ourselves, we often bring that baggage into our relationship with God. Perhaps this is what caused Eve to question God's veracity. Maybe she thought, "will I really die?" Of course, that was only after the subtle suggestion was made by the enemy, Satan himself.
Well, while we may be "truth-challenged," He definitely is not and the distinction between man and God on this matter is quite vast. While we desire to be like Him, He is not like us when it comes to faithfulness to promises. If He said it, you can bet your bottom dollar that it is the truth. Of course for most, the dilemma is not just believing that what God has said is true, but it's knowing whether or not God has said anything at all on the matter. If that's your issue then your problem is solved. He's written 66 books which tell all about His promises and more than that, they are not just promises, but some are great personal promises written just for you. Take time to seize one of His promises for you this weekend and see that God is true to every word that He speaks.
