Subject: What is Truth?
John 18:37-38 - "Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all."
This sounds like a simple question with a really simple answer - and perhaps it is. However, by God's standard it is so much more than the simple answer that most would give. What is truth? Firs of all it's your witness and testimony. Our character should be such that everything we do reeks of being honorable and trustworthy. This means that we have a lifestyle that mirrors Christ and in essence we bear witness to Him. After all, He is the truth. Secondly, it's a disregard for anything that hinders our ability to hear Christ. Anything that blocks our communication with Him is a filter that prevents truth from entering in. Our only options left at that point are all in support of what we think is truth. However, what we think is truth and what is in fact truth are often quite different.
An example of this would be the story of Abraham being promised that he would have a son from his wife Sara at an old age. They heard God, but then both Sara and Abraham thought that their way of bringing it to pass was "the way." However, it was soon exposed and what they thought was the God's truth was brought to pass in God's way and not theirs.
That's why it's important to be led by the Spirit because when we only have our natural thoughts, our options are quite limited. We are not only to speak the truth and bear witness of the truth, we are to be "of the truth." That's truth.
