Subject:   God Was Digging Deep

Isaiah 28:16 - "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste."

I remember observing a construction site when I was working in Washington, D.C.  Technically it was Falls Church, Virginia, but if you know the geography of that part of the country, who really knows where one city ends and another one begins.  At any rate, I noticed at the construction site that they were burrowing deep, deep, deep into the ground.  For many weeks they continued as though they were building a deep lake or something.  Finally, a few months later, a building began to spring up out of the ground.  A couple of months later, I noticed that this building was going to be a high-rise and it got taller and taller with each passing day.  In the end it was probably about 30 or 40 stories high.  I never really though much about it until I attended a men's conference and I heard Dr. Tony Evans speak and he was talking about establishing a sure foundation and he said, "you can tell how high a building is going to go, by how deep they dig down to set the foundation."  I immediately thought of that building that I had witnessed being constructed.

Today that's a great lesson for us on ensuring that we've set a tried and true foundation.  We don't have to dig deep to set our foundation today because God has done that work for us.  As the verse above says, He provided a precious corner stone, a sure foundation.  Now we must simply choose to build on that foundation.  God was digging deep when He had Jesus brutally beat, crucified and then resurrected.  He was digging deep when He sent His only begotten son to pay the penalty for our sins.  He was digging deep so that our foundation would be sure and secure.  He knew that there was no other foundation that would enable us to build the way that we truly desire to build in our lives, so He dug deep.

See we all want "high-rises" in our lives, but those we will never have if choose foundations with no depth.  Today choose the corner stone laid in Zion for you.  That's surely a strong foundation and a deep one.
