Subject: Dance Like Nobody's Watching
2 Samuel 6:14 - King James Version
And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod."
2 Samuel 6:21 - 22 GOD'S WORD version - "David answered Michal, "{I didn't dance in front of the slave girls but} in front of the LORD. He chose me rather than your father or anyone in your father's house, and he appointed me leader of Israel, the LORD's people. I will celebrate in the LORD's presence, and I will degrade myself even more than this. Even if I am humiliated in your eyes, I will be honored by these slave girls you speak about."
Playing percussion in our church worship band, someone once said to me after church service, "boy you really get into playing that drum don't you?" I responded, "I get into worship, yes." Yesterday my pastor preached on "acknowledging Him in our worship." It made me think of one TV commercial that is advertising about the joy of some automobile or something and they say, "dance like nobody's watching." I realized that if we are really worshipping God, then that's what happens. Unfortunately, we are constrained by many things that keep us from being totally free to worship God.
Make no bones about it, David was a true worshipper. Reading through Psalms it's clear to see that and on this one particular occasion identified in the passage above, David was literally, "dancing like no one was watching." So much so that he didn't realize that he really didn't have any clothes on. The people watching of course were quite ashamed of what they thought was a shameful display, but you can see David's response. David knew that he was dancing before the Lord.
Question? Have you ever entered into "true worship?" Have you ever danced like nobody was watching, before the Lord? If you've always wondered what others thought about what you were doing, then you've probably never "humiliated" yourself in worship. Talk about "let go and let God." Release your worship today and find real joy.
