Subject: Putting On The Mask Or Taking It Off?
Colossians 3:12 - "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;"
Well it's that night of the year where everyone, if so inclined, can get into ghosts and goblins and the many different settings of what we call Halloween. Most of us will see children and maybe even grown-ups dressed-up as some character from TV or something that we recognize. However for all of this putting on masks and costumes, sometimes people who put on much to change their appearance on the outside are actually showing more of what they are like inside.
Lets think about that. Won't you be able to tell a little bit more about how someone is and what they think about based on how he or she chooses to dress up? If someone dresses up as a clown, perhaps they are someone that you often see as funny or whom at least desires to be so. If someone dresses up as a firefighter then perhaps they are people who want to help with tough jobs. At least that's what most of us think of firefighters. These are guesses that we would make about people based on their Halloween costumes. However, every day, we put on things; jewelry, clothing and other accessories and its just as though it were Halloween, because what we put on says much about what we believe and the kind of people we are. And while the external dressing says much, God can see how we dress up internally every day.
We wake up some days and God sees that we're already dressed in hatred, animosity and bitterness. That can often come out externally in the clothes we wear also. Other days we can wake up and put on, as the scripture says, "bowels of mercy, kindness, meekness and patience." Think about how we look then.
Today realize that whatever you put on, it's really taking off the mask to show the real you. You will dress like the devil or you will dress like Christ. What you gonna be for Halloween? You're already wearing it.
