Subject: Today-Praise, Tomorrow-The Cross
Matthew 21:9 "And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest."
We were watching the final game of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) of baseball and we observed the pitcher that entered the game for the Astros. They were in a bind and they needed someone to come in and do a great job for them in order to win the series. My friend Melanie was watching with us and as I remarked about how good a job the pitcher was doing, she said, "oh yes he's really good." At that point, the batter at the plate got a hit off of the pitcher and within in the span of one or two minutes from the time Melanie exclaimed the greatness of the pitcher she yelled, "take him out."
That reminded me of how they did our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One day they were saying, "Hosanna" and "glory to God in the highest" and within the span of one week they were saying "crucify Him." That really just shows us the fickleness of man. They did it with Christ and it can happen to you any and every day. Someone once told me, "remember, you're never as good as they say you are and you're not as bad either."
So today if you're getting high praises for a job well done or for some other great accomplishment, remain humble. Today the praise may come and tomorrow they might want to kill you.
