Subject: Maybe Sin Is Your Problem
1 John 5:17 - "All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death."
My wife and I often analyze news items and statements by people to see how prevalent "the victim mentality" is in our country. Everyone feels like they have been wronged by somebody so everything becomes someone else's fault and not their own.
The latest case was Joe Francis, the founder of a soft-porn video company called "Girls Gone Wild." If you've ever had your television on past midnight then you probably saw one of his infomercials where he sells his videos of young girls committing terrible acts while intoxicated. Mr Francis is now in jail in Nevada on some sort of tax charge, but he also has many more charges pending from filming underage girls. In an interview from prison that we watched yesterday, he began to breakdown and cry and repeat that he hadn't done anything wrong and that there are people out to get him. In what was the most ironic part of it all, he complained about being humiliated by having to strip naked and walk through the jail to the jeers of fellow inmates. Uhmm, sounds like payback.
Joe Francis has many more problems than his current jail time. He has pending trials of rape, assault and drug use, not to mention that he has already been to numerous trials for all of the above. I wonder, while Mr Francis is complaining about people being out to get him, if he has ever thought about his own "sin."
Mr Francis is like many of us. There are so many people to blame, but in the end, usually it's "our" sin that is the problem. All unrighteousness is sin and we need to understand that the only way to deal with sin is to get it out of our lives and we do that by confessing it to Christ so that it can be dealt with properly.
Today my prayer for Mr Francis is that he come to the knowledge of his sin and become an instrument for a "Christians Gone Evangelism Wild" video.
