Subject:  What's The Point Of This Job?

1Corinthians 10:31 - "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

To whose glory?  Oh yeah, to God's glory.  I must remember that.  I was really depressed one day after giving a brief to my fellow officers in the Marine Corps because I forgot the point of "doing it all to God's glory."  The brief did not go well, so I was quite depressed.  There were questions that I couldn't answer and it went downhill from there.  This left me feeling very bad about the whole situation and I was left to question why things went so poorly.  At the end of everything, I surmised that I was asking the wrong question.  I was concerned about the results when I should've been concerned about why I was giving the brief.

When we lose focus on why we are here doing what we do, then other things slip into our real purpose.  We're not here to become the greatest orators on the planet, although that could happen to any of us.  We're not even here to become the best singers, evangelists or street sweepers.  We're also not here to become the best parents or husbands or wives.  We're here only for the one true purpose of bringing God glory in all that we do.

I was most upset that I didn't impress the listeners with my brief.  I was upset that I didn't have all of the answers.  I was really upset that things just simply didn't go well.  I never once considered the question,  "was I bringing God glory?"  I was briefing for Carlen instead of briefing for God and His glory.

I'd love to be the best Marine on the planet, but with a proper focus, I will simply see myself as someone intent on glorifying God in everything that I do.  Whether I am a Marine or a taxicab driver or anything in between, as the JesusMOB says in answer to the question, "what's the point of this job," quite simply, "it's Jesus."  Do it all for His glory.

 Carlen
