Subject: The Impending Collision
Romans 10:3 - "For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."
One of my fellow teachers at school asked me to come talk to his class yesterday about discipline and life. Today I'll make a devotional out of what I said to them. It's about following rules. I call it, The Impending Collision of Life. This graphic should also help you see what I'm talking about.

There are many things that influence the rules that we set for our lives. As you see on the graphic, parenting, friends, tv and other things influence the rules that we set for our lives. On the other side you'll see that life's rules are influenced only by the unchangeable laws that God has set in place. Now no one knows the time and place of the intersection of those two lines but we all know that it will happen and when it does, if your rules don't match up with God's rules, that's what we call a disaster.
With the class I talked to, I used the case of Michael Vick. Surely Michael Vick didn't start fighting dogs the day he got caught and what got him into that anyway? Surely it was influences from a much earlier part of his life. No doubt that his wealth after college and his national popularity during college formulated in his mind that he could violate some of life's rules and be okay. The only problem is that he didn't realize that he was on a collision course with life's rules. We all are. From Michael Vick to the executives of Enron, our rules need to match up with God's rules or the explosion is going to be big.
Today understand that we're all on a collision course with life. That can be bad news or good news. That depends on whether or not we've submitted ourselves to our own righteousness or to the righteousness of God.
