Subject: A Horse Is Still A Horse
Genesis 2:24 "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one
flesh."
"When you put a fundamental right of a minority up for popular vote, it's almost impossible to win," said Matt Foreman, Executive Director of The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. "I'm not sure the right to desegregate schools, the freedom to marry another race or even access to contraception in many states would exist if those issues were put up for a vote."
That was the response from the "other side" after the election on yesterday in Texas concerning Proposition 2 which was the amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman. It won overwhelmingly in this somewhat conservative state. The gay marriage topic was a big issue on the election ballot here and many feared that because Texas is so conservative, most people would take it for granted that it would pass easily. And even with this overwhelming victory, that still appeared to be the case where according to polls in Harris County, which is the most populous county in the state, gay and lesbian backers appeared to turn out in twice the numbers of other voters. Like I told my students on yesterday as we discussed the issue in my classroom, I can call a horse a cat, but that doesn't make it one. As they sang in the theme song to the old series, "Mr. Ed," A horse is a horse of course of course...
That song is true, because God has defined, not just what would be a horse, but all of life. So often we simply try to redefine it. We should stop attempting to redefine life and begin living according to God's definitions. That means that sin is sin and right is right. This isn't just a gay marriage issue, it's about whether God is God to us or if He's just another person with an opinion.
In my life, I see Him as the "Rule" for all of life because He didn't just call a horse a horse, He made the horse in the first place.
