Subject: Honor The King
1 Peter 2:17 “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king."
Watching Senator John McCain's concession speech, it made me feel good to see that there can still be civility, even in this crazy world of politics. He made perfectly clear that this is the system by which we choose leaders, that the country had chosen a leader and that we all must now support our leader. That message should be posted on everyone's door.
I listened with sadness yesterday as a man called in to a conservative talk radio program and with hatred and bitterness in his voice talking about how he could never call President-elect Obama, "President." That is despicable for any citizen who would remain loyal to our country and even more so if that person claims to follow the god of the bible.
In the '90's, shortly after President Clinton's troubles in the White House, I heard a pastor on nation-wide TV and from his pulpit call the President, "a spineless coward." That is simply disobedience to the God he claims to serve. I've heard much of the same type of talk against our current President and it is equally hurtful to our country.
God tells us in the scripture above to honor all men...and honor the king. He didn't say "honor only those kings that you think are honorable." He said "honor the king."
Today the reality for believers and a point that I've come to realize is that regardless of who our king is, he or she is at their best, not by me necessarily opening my mouth, but more by me getting on my knees. If you want to honor the king as God has told us, pray for him today. That's where real change happens.
