Subject: If You Meet My Son

John 5:23 - "That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him."

We had just set up a concession stand to sell food and beverages during the local college homecoming football game.  I was working feverishly to get things going when my dad drove up.  He looked around and immediately went to the guy set up next to us and in a few seconds, the guy was coming over and he said to me, "my dad wanted me to meet you."  I introduced myself, "how are you, Carlen Charleston," and my dad stood by and added on to my introduction.  "He retired from the Marines.  Lieutenant Colonel.  He played football at North Texas.  He..."  Of course that's the point where I'm normally beginning to roll my eyes.  Usually after I meet people in that situation, they eventually come back to let me know how proud my dad is of me.

My dad doesn't just do this with me.  He does it with all of his children.  So I wondered this weekend why my dad's first move, when he meets someone, is to introduce his children and talk about their accomplishments.  I finally figured in my mind that he does it because he believes that the people he meets will know more about him as a person if they know about his children and what they've done.  I'm sure that this is true to some degree.

With God this is 100% true.  God's picture of His Son is a perfect duplicate of Himself as The Father.  God's Holy Bible is all about introducing you to His Son that you might know Him as The Father.  Like my dad or as I believe he is saying so too God is saying today, "If you meet my son and know what He has done, then you'll know me as The Father."
