Subject: Maybe It's Your Gasoline
2 Corinthians 3:5 "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our
sufficiency [is] of God;"
During the recent gas price hikes, like many, I've been on the search for the cheapest of cheap gasoline to fill-up, trying to keep the price as much below $3/gallon as possible. I found a place that always had the cheapest by far and began to fill up there regularly. I was pretty proud of myself for always seeing higher gas prices at other stations and knowing that mine was the best bargain. Then one day as I was talking to my brother about where he was buying gas and how much he was paying for it, I told him about my "bargain." He replied, "you put that stuff in your car? It's watered down ain't it?" At that point I paused for a second and then said, "uhmm, maybe that's why my car has been sputtering and stuttering."
Our lives are often like my car. At times we're running on cheap fuel and often, just as I was, we are proud of it. So what is cheap fuel in our lives? Cheap fuel could be when we wake up each morning ensuring that we have our breakfast to power us through the day, but neglecting to talk to God for our daily bread. Cheap fuel could be working diligently at work to get a promotion or just to say that we did our best while neglecting worship service and bible study because we don't have time. Cheap fuel could also be doing our best to be a good spouse or mother or father, but then sending our children to Sunday School or church while we stay at home.
Eating breakfast and having a proper diet or doing our best at our job or being a good parent, husband or wife are all good things to work towards, but without God being the source of all of these efforts, it's like my car running on that cheap gasoline. It will get my car running, but eventually it will cause engine problems and even now, that's why my car (life) is sputtering.
Today, perhaps you've been running on cheap fuel and didn't realize that's why your life is stuttering and sputtering. Today, you don't just need a fuel additive, you need to replace the gasoline. Go Premium. Go God. That's the "Tiger In Your Tank."
