Subject: Who Really Cares?
Luke 6:38 - "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
I listened on the radio yesterday as an author of a book entitled, "Who Really Cares: America’s Charity Divide; Who Gives, Who Doesn’t, and Why It Matters?", talked about the huge split between conservative and liberal giving. That's the way he phrased it, but he boiled it down to religious or church-going people versus secular people or those who don't go to church regularly. He was amazed to find out that people who go to church are more likely to give to charitable causes outside of the church. He also found that these people usually don't make as much as their non-giving counterparts. From the tsunami relief effort to 9/11 and Katrina, church people do more to help.
I don't think that I'm that amazed by the numbers. If he looked further, and perhaps he did but I didn't hear him talk about it, he would also find that these people are generally more content in life.
See when we give, it sets us up to be given to. If we are so full of ourselves and aren't emptying ourselves, then God can't get anything else into us. In our society, that's our way of meeting our own need. When however we give, then God is able to do that supernatural thing that lets us know that He will always be there to supply our need just like He said.
Today, don't depend on yourself, give and make room for God to do His giving.
