Subject:  Kill Em All

Jeremiah 50:29 - "Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel."

This is but one of a number of passages in the bible where God's people were told not to let anyone escape, but to slay them all.  I thought about that this weekend as I prepared to host our big Thanksgiving dinner.  As I cooked the turkey outside on the grill, I noticed that a whole colony of ants had formed along the back patio.  With company coming over and all, you really don't want to have ants spoiling your outdoor activities.  So I went about with a hoe and a can of ant and bug spray and dug up the mound of dirt and sprayed it with the killer fluid.  That was early Thursday morning.  Yesterday I spent some time cleaning up from the weekend's festivities.  I noticed that as quickly as I had destroyed the colony of ants, they were back and building new mounds to replace the ones I had destroyed a few days earlier.

That's an excellent example of why God wants to get all of the sin out of our lives.  Of course we want to hold on to bits and pieces of it, but He knows that like the ants, those bits and pieces will start rebuilding and take over if we let them live on.

Today don't be satisfied that you've killed some of the ants of sin.  Kill them all.  I know a great pesticide and it's called, bible reading.  It's preventive maintenance for your life.  Read more today to keep the ants from rebuilding.
