Subject: Hey God, Can I Get A Spot?
1Peter 5:7 - "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
One of the favorite workouts for many weightlifters is the bench press. It's where you lie on your back and you heave as much poundage as possible upward from your chest. Frequently, in weight room jargon, you'll hear someone who is getting ready to lift a lot of weight say, "hey man, can I get a spot from you?" That means they need some assistance in case they are not able to get the weight up completely by themselves. It's great for safety and it can aid in building additional muscular strength that could otherwise not be gained by lifting lesser weight.
In the weight room, this asking for help from what is many times a stranger, is a great way to build camaraderie. It's a friend coming and rendering assistance to another friend. The great thing with God though is that He not only renders the assistance, but He will lift the weight for us. He says that if we take our burdens and our cares and cast them on Him, then He will lift them for us. Why? Because, that's how He cares. Therefore, we get the benefit of the strengthened muscle, but He lifts the weight. What a deal.
So today, if you want to "get the weight off of your chest," don't ask a friend, relative, or loved one for a spot, ask God. While others can assist, often they are incapable of lifting the weight that you put on them. You simply "get it off of your chest" and put it on theirs. When you ask God for a spot, He is always more than capable and in the end, you get the muscle and He does the lifting.
