Subject: Lessons From Healing
Luke 9:11 - "And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing."
This might sound strange, but it really feels good to get injured again. I was in the gym this morning and something popped in my back and I was upset for a moment about what I knew was another injury, but as I was stretching it out and thinking about what it could be, I felt this strange sense of joy as I realized, this kind of thing can happen when you're working out and trying to do good things to build your body. There was a time, shortly after my surgery, that I would've gladly taken the risk of an injury just for the chance to work out in the gym again. I think that we often take for granted the things we can learn from healing.
First of all, healing means that something was working and is broken. It should make us grateful for those things that God has working for us. Remember how when you got sick you realized how great it felt not to be sick? Your health is so much more important when you don't have it. An injury or sickness is God's way of reminding us of His healing power.
Secondly, healing us teaches us that things happen on God's time. I had this plan, after my surgery this past May, of being back to my normal strength in December. I was almost there until today. I might still get there, but I realized that I move on God's time even when I make my own schedule.
Finally, we learn that healing is a perpetual process. As believers, we're always in a state of healing. We're healing as a result of our sin or we're healing from issues of sin sometimes not our own; broken relationships, circumstances and grief.
Today don't get upset about whatever injury it is you have. Be thankful. There is much to learn from healing and it all comes from God.
