Subject: What Are You Rewarding?
Proverbs 17:13 - "Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house."
The principle in the scriptural passage is clear. If you want more of something, you reward it. If you reward evil, it will remain ever present with you. I believe that this principle works pretty much for everything. If you reward something, more people will do whatever it takes to get the reward. That is a problem right now in our country.
In the last year we've seen business after business say, "I'm a failure." Why would everyone fight so hard to say, "I'm a failure." Because by doing so, they get a reward. That reward can be billions of dollars, such as the big three automakers are asking our government for right now. Of course we can continue to reward failure, but doing so comes at a cost and that cost will be the attitude of failure by many more.
Today it is pretty clear why so many people want to talk about doing so poorly in today's economy. They want help and while some of the help may be legitimate, for many others, it's simply a way to be "rewarded."
Remember, what you reward today, will be there again tomorrow. What are you rewarding?
