Subject: He Can Find It
Matthew 17:27 - "Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee."
Talk about the omnipotence of God. The other day I went to my brother's house to feed my horses. It was after 6:30 p.m. or so and there was no moon so it was really dark. My brother was having lighting problems in the barn so I was using my cell phone as a flashlight. It was tough going, but I've fed the horses millions of times and could probably do it blindfolded. I was prepared for that, but what I wasn't prepared for was what I discovered once I finished feeding the horses. When I got out of my van I stuck the car key in the front pocket of my jeans. About 15 or 20 minutes later, when I finished with everything, I prepared to leave. When I got to my van, there was no key in my pocket. I did the frantic pocket search that most of us do when we first realize that we lost something, but to no avail. The search was complicated by the fact that it was a single key with no key chain. Immediately my thought went to where I probably lost it. I reasoned that as I hopped a fence to go out to the pasture, it must've fallen out then. This was going to be a mammoth task due to the lighting problem and the tall grass and weeds that surround the area where it had probably fallen. I immediately thought of the verse above and said a little prayer to God because this was like unto finding a needle in a haystack and I knew that if God could send one of His people to the sea to find a fish with a coin in its mouth then this would be no problem for Him.
The passage above really does speak to God's wonder-working power. If we realized that more often and invoked His power through the difficulties of life, we'd find more "needles in the haystack." See, finding a needle in the haystack or finding you an extra $10,000 to catch up on debts or finding a healing for that medical problem that you've been carrying for years or even finding a way to change that hatred in your heart that you've had for someone for many years, all of these things are as routine to God as you tying your shoes each day. To Him it's a matter of restoration and He can do it, but He does it for those who trust in Him to do it.
In the end, as I walked out to the pasture through some very tall weeds, in pitch black conditions, I felt a small lump through the rubber boots that I was wearing. I turned and probed for a few seconds and then, shining my cell phone light, there it was, a single black key, buried in the tall grass. It probably was impossible to see in the daytime and I found it in the dark of night.
Today realize that it's not just about the coin or the fish in the story above, it's about the power of God in your everyday life. And as in my case, He can do more than find your car keys. He can find your lost life.
