Subject: Discarded By The World; Used By God
1 Corinthians 1:28 - "And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are."
A good friend of mine has been on her job for about 30 years. In the company's downsizing, they've decided that her services are no longer that valuable to them. They would like to "move" her to "another" position in the company. My friend is an extremely hard and dedicated worker and I used to jest whenever she worked an eight hour day that she was working "half days." She was extremely dedicated and committed. But what her company is doing to her isn't just a picture of the world; it is the world.
See regardless of where you are now in life, if you live long enough, you're going to outlive your usefulness to the world. You're going to get too old, too weak, too out of touch, too different, too anything that the world wants to use to discard you because they want "new" and "exciting" and they will use any excuse they want simply to get rid of you. It's great knowing that this is not the case with our God.
Right about the time you realize that the world has thrown you on its trash heap, God comes along and lets you know that you still have purpose and usefulness. It doesn't matter what age, what ability or disability you have, God will use the base things of the world and the things which are despised to bring about His change in the same world that discarded you. Witness Joseph, Moses, Abraham, David and many others.
Today glorify our God that though we may be rejected by the world, we are always useful to the Master.
