Subject:  Don't Drink The Kool-Aid

Matthew 4:10b - "...for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."

Mark 13:22 - "For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect."

It was 30 years ago tomorrow that Jim Jones lead a group of his followers to commit mass suicide by drinking cyanide-laced kool-aid.  More than 900 lives were taken that fateful day in a village that he named after himself, Jonestown, Guyana.  Everyone wondered how so many people could be deceived to the point that they would willingly follow a man to this point.

The Jonestown's tragedy coined the term, "drinking the kool-aid" to identify people that are willing to follow something or someone blindly and without thought or rationale for their actions.  And while many believe it could never happen to them, I watched during the last presidential election as I observed many citizens not simply being "for" a candidate, but as my mom reported from one woman, she felt as though she was "at the feet of Jesus."  That's drinking the Kool-Aid. A quote from one popular TV broadcaster said that he "felt a tingle go up his leg when he talked to the candidate.  That's drinking the Kool-Aid.

Today the world would love to have you drink its Kool-Aid.  If you can find something or someone to replace the Lord Thy God as the object of all worship, then you will commit spiritual suicide for the world.  And don't be deceived and think that this can not happen to you.  Everyone is looking for a messiah and will find one.  It's just a matter of which one they will follow.  Don't drink the Kool-Aid.  There is only one and that is Jesus Christ.
