Subject: The Law Is Good - Your Sin Is Bad
1 Timothy 1:8 "But we know that the law [is] good, if a man use it
lawfully."
The purpose of the law - show us our sinfulness. The end of sin - death. Law - Good, Sin - Bad
Many people get confused about the relationship of the ten commandments or even just the old covenant to the new covenant church. With all of the chatter in the public about whether they should be posted or whether they should not be allowed in public leaves many wondering.
Well for starters, the law is here to stay. Christ said in Matthew 5:17 that I have not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. However, this is still the law of death because it illuminates our sinfulness and the wages or the end of sin is death. However as Roman 8:2 says, "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. It goes on in the 3rd verse to say, "for what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.
Today we need to hoist the Ten Commandments wherever we can so that the lost and dying world can see the need for a savior. We will only look for rescuing if we feel in trouble. That's what the Ten Commandments does for us. It condemns us as sinners. When we feel the need for a savior, then Christ is right there for The Rescue.
