Subject: Get Out On The Dance Floor
Luke 5:30-31 - "But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick."
One weekend we were attending our annual Marine Corps Ball. It's always an interesting occasion with the cadets of my high school Junior ROTC program. The Ball itself is a formal affair, but then comes the dancing afterwards. As I remembered what happened last year, I was quite afraid of what was going to take place this year during the dancing portion. I talked to all of the cadets beforehand and mentioned that this is a family affair and that it should be treated as such. There was to be no dirty or vulgar dancing. When the music finally started up, my 10 year-old was the first one on the floor, followed by my 7 year-old and then I joined them. I think that set the mood and the dancing went on all night without any vulgarity or need for alarm.
The lesson I learned is that sometimes if you want to make a change in the dancing, you've got to dance yourself. It's easy to stand by and wish that things were different, but many times it takes our example and involvement to make things go the way they are supposed to go.
I think that's why Jesus was so involved with the sinners of the day. He engaged them with an example of holy living. He went about eating and drinking with them because He knew what we sometimes forget. Those that are sick need a physician.
Today engage the sinful culture. Don't just stand on the wall wishing they would change their vulgar dancing. Get out on the dance floor and show them holiness.
