Subject: A Problem Job Never Had
Job 2:3 - "And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause."
The Christian world, as well as the political world, was surprised when 700 Club founder Pat Robertson recently threw an endorsement to Republican Presidential Candidate, Rudy Guiliani. Robertson, a well-known evangelical, , would seem to be at odds with Guiliani's stance on abortion. Many called his endorsement of Guiliani a "slap-in-the-face" to the cause of evangelicals and a vote for "who he thinks will win" rather than a vote for principle. Robertson stated that his main issue isn't social policy, but instead how Guiliani would stop Islamic terrorists.
So the arguments will go back and forth from all sides about whether or not this is a compromise of Robertson's Christian beliefs. Sometimes we can confuse ourselves and others with the views we take on issues. People look for consistency and when they don't see it, they begin to question a person's character, principles or integrity. This was a problem that Job never had.
God identifies Job as an upright man who "holdeth fast his integrity." That's how we should be. People may or may not agree with us, but we should still be seen as consistent in our views and actions.
Today is your integrity in check? Do you fear God and eschew evil? Is that what people say and know about you? Don't get confused by the issues of life. The right side to stand on any issue is the side that God has always stood on.
