Subject: The Difference Is How You Respond To Dropped Passes
Romans 8:37 "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."
The stage was set for our 1st Annual Leadership Bowl. The leadership challenge poised to one of my cadets was to show him that if he picked out of all of the cadets, the "stronger" athletes and then let me pick from those cadets left, the "weaker" athletes, my team would beat his in a football game because of my leadership ability. To make a long story short, the "weaker" team beat the "stronger" team by 4 touchdowns. After the game, the losing cadet team captain was talking to me about how sorry his players were and about all of the mistakes they had made. "They can't catch, they couldn't tackle...they were sorry." I responded to him, "that's why it's called The Leadership Bowl. Good leadership works with what is given and makes it successful." I went on to explain to the young cadet how he demoralized his team. Whenever they would drop a pass, he would denigrate them on the field. I showed him how I responded when my teammates dropped a pass and how it motivated them for the next attempt they would have to catch a pass.
At the end of the day we need to see that we all drop passes, the victory or loss in life comes in how we respond to the dropped passes. God's motivation to continue on comes in Romans 8 when He says that nothing keeps us from being loved by God.
God doesn't harass us when we drop passes. He encourages us to get ready for the next pass that He throws our way, after all, like anything else, learning to catch comes from experience and having a great "coach/leader on the field," and boy do we have that in Jesus Christ.
Today think about how you're responding to the "dropped passes" in your life.
