Subject: Godly Leadership - A National Day Of Prayer
2 Chronicles 20:3 "And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah."
If you've ever needed a story on what godly leadership looks like, take some time to read the 19th and 20th chapters of Chronicles. There you will find the awesome story of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. While he was in charge he went throughout his kingdom ensuring that his leaders knew that they were not only accountable to him, but more importantly to God. Our elected officials would do well to understand this principle today. The culmination of his attitude of reverence and commitment to God is found in the 20th chapter where he learns that a union has been formed against Judah and they will be attacked. What is Jehoshaphat's response? Prayer!
The scripture says that Jehoshaphat "feared" but he didn't let fear change his principles. That's the essence of godly leadership. For any "king", president or leader, there will be crises and if the leader is wise, he/she will know that the first response is always to "seek the Lord."
Today as the National Day of Prayer approaches, pray that our leaders would be godly examples of leadership and then think about where you are. In many ways we are all leaders. Let us ensure that our example is much like that of Jehoshaphat. The decision made after seeking the Lord shows that if nothing else, the priorities are right.
