Subject: That's A Good Call

2 Timothy 4:8 - "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

As I was contemplating the horrible refereeing during the current NBA playoffs, I thought to myself, "are there sports in Heaven?"  I thought this because I was thinking, what if there were games played where all the right calls were made all the time.  I was watching the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns play and as the game wound down to the closing seconds, the referees missed a big call and as they watched the replay, the commentator overheard the referee tell the offended coach, "my fault."

Can you imagine a place where everything is always just and righteous?  A simple game of pickup basketball, always played fairly; a place where the referees and players biggest concern is to give God praise.  That would be great and it would have to be heaven.  I now see that my frustration with the poor officiating in the NBA playoffs is from my expectation of man and of course man will always fall short when it comes to judging 100% righteously.

Today keep your expectations real.  While there are people down here who play sports for the glory of God, many other players and referees do not.  If you want a fair game with no missed calls, you'll have to wait on heaven.  As one of the beer commercials that is running during the playoffs says, "that's a good call."
