Subject: Keep Training
Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
We kneeled down to say our prayers last night. My daughters go first and then I usually close the prayer session. I noticed that both of my daughters were really big into asking God to do this and do that for them and it just seemed overwhelmingly about them. I thought that I needed to interject a little deeper thought into their prayer lives so as I closed, I mentioned that "we want more than anything to grow closer to you because we know that we have all that we need in your Son Jesus Christ." I was quite "holy" and "spiritual" in my mind and thought, this will do them good so I finished and said "amen." My oldest daughter then broke in and had an addendum and I immediately thought, "yea I reached her" and she said, "oh and God please make sure that I make an "A" on my test, Amen." I just shook my head.
The only thing I realized in this prayer session that we really do have to pray for our children in earnest and ensure that we are modeling in our daily lives what we want to see in them. I know it's not over and my daughters still have much to learn, but they're simply not going to get "life" because we want them to have it correct the first time. It's going to take years and there will be hills and valleys and it's never over.
Today the message is simple. Life is long and every day counts when you're training up a child the way that he or she should go. Keep training.
