Subject: God's Door Is Still Open
Revelation 3:8 - "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."
Three years ago I attended the funeral of a coworker's father. My coworker was a government contractor and we had become pretty good friends over about a 7 or 8 month period. When his father died, it was a great opportunity to talk about the issues of eternal life. I was sensitive to the time and I simply wanted to know if his father knew Christ. I then talked to him about having that issue settled for himself. Well, not much seemed to happen as a result of that conversation. Years passed and through my deployments, a new job and lots of transition, we remained friends with little contact except an occasional email. However, about a year ago, as I began to look for a new place to live, I talked to him and he recommended one of his coworkers. To necessarily shorten this story, I moved in with his coworker who is now my roommate.
Last week, when I came home from work, my old coworker was at the house with my roommate just hanging out. I talked to him about many issues, but the most amazing was the fact that he had heard of my roommates exploits attending church and had even discussed with his wife about going to that church to see for himself. He sounded quite enthusiastic about making it all happen.
As I began to encourage my old friend, I thought about how God's moves simply cannot be stopped. Many times after we've long closed a door in our minds, God's still got it open. I remember feeling somewhat down years ago when my old friend was non-responsive after I talked to him about eternal life issues. I had pretty much closed that door in my mind, but now I see that God wanted to work His will His way. See, God really did open the door and if we keep His word and continue to be about His business, nobody can stop God's move. Nobody or no circumstance, not even time itself, can shut that open door.
Today, let's keep moving in God's strength. Let's keep His word and lets not deny His name because someone could be walking through that door that God opened many years ago. Be there to receive them.
