Subject: Remember
Deuteronomy 6:21 - "Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:"
Monday we observed Memorial Day. It's a day to remember those who have given their lives in the service of their country. I think that today we take this, the sacrifice of lives for the defense of our country, way too lightly. If you heard last week, Rosie O'Donnell, who simply dominates way too much TV time regardless of whatever she is, made a statement referring to our military service personnel in Iraq as terrorists. The sad part isn't that she said it, it's that there was a smattering of applause after she did.
I'm not a big history person, but there are a few things that I do know. Many years ago when the country went to war, the "country" went to war. Efforts like World War II called for sacrifice from everyone in the country and the country was willing to do it. Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, drove America to enter the war and from major corporations to stay-at-home moms, dads and even children, everyone pitched in to win. Today, the Marines and the Army of the U.S. are at war and the country wants to simply go on with life.
I pray that we all take the time to remember that we have all been "in Egypt," but God has delivered us with His mighty hand. The move of His mighty hand has cost American lives and their will surely be more sacrifice required if we desire a continuing life of freedom and opportunity.
Today and every day, remember the feeling of unity as a country. Remember 9/11. Remember the cliché that freedom simply isn't free. Remember that our problem in this country isn't that we're at war, it's that we've forgotten how God has delivered us.
