Subject: Why The Good News Is So Good
Proverbs 25:25 - "As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country."
I was home early from work yesterday so the wife and I had a chance to sit down and watch the news together, something we seldom do. I usually only get news briefs online or from talk shows on CNN or The Fox News Channel. What I realized from actually watching the news is that we really don't get much anymore. We get junk.
Here's a case in point. There was a viciously brutal murder and rape of a couple by 5 assailants, 4 men and a woman. Because nobody carried it on the news I'm not even sure where it was. For all I know it could've been right next door to me. However I sat yesterday and watched the news tell me who won "Dancing With The Stars" and then forecast what was going to happen on "American Idol" later that night. As I always say, "what's up with that?" I've got plenty more examples with Paris Hilton, Brittney Spears and the like. I just can't believe that we now call that news. On the other hand that's what makes the good news "so good."
The good news which is the gospel of Jesus Christ is in stark contrast with all other news. Even if the current stuff that they show on the news was news that I wanted to hear, it would pale in comparison to the refreshing and unchanging nature of the news about what Christ did for me. When I read about the Good News, it's always pertinent and it's just what I needed to know about.
All of that junk news is really bad, but it's not that it is so bad, it's just that the Good News is "so" good.
