Subject: You Think You've Got It Tough
Proverbs 24:10 - "If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small."
Recently, my friend Zeyad, in Baghdad, had written a request asking me to assist him in getting his family moved out of danger. I told him that I would help and began checking to see what I could do. As I was responding to him in an email, I wrote a line that said something like this, "...I've been quite busy and have had a tough week..." and then I suddenly realized what I was saying and to whom I was saying it. I immediately backspaced over that part of the email and just told him I would get to it.
Seems like we always think that we've had it so tough. However in most cases if we consider the plight of many, we'll find out that we don't have it nearly so bad.
I looked at my "tough week" and considered what Zeyad must be enduring and it made me seem like some whining wimp. That's what the scripture above is talking about. Adversity will surely come and when it does, it will reveal our strength or weakness.
Today consider how you handle your next challenge. Don't make excuses; just get to it. Weak or strong, remember someone's always got it worse because if nothing else there was the one who bore the sin of the entire world. You think "you've" got it tough?
