Subject:  Too Tired To Do What?

2Corinthians 4:16 - "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."

I play in the band at church and boy do I love doing it.  It's a great time of worship whenever it happens.  I also love talking about health and fitness.  I get really motivated and can talk about it for days.  Well, yesterday was another opportunity for me to do both of those things but it was complicated by the fact that I had to fly to Miami, Florida on Saturday morning to pick up a minivan that I purchased and then drive it all the way back to Virginia in time for church on Sunday morning to be followed by a health and fitness presentation to a ladies group in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Sunday afternoon.  What a task.

While it does appear difficult, before you immediately call me crazy, consider this - I love to drive.  Whether it's across the country or around the block, there are few things more calming to me than a nice drive.  Of course, I'm not talking about the kind of drive you frequently get in the Washington, D.C. area.  That's more like pain, but to get on the road and to simply drive, is quite my style.  The other thing to consider is how much I love the church I attend and the opportunity to worship there.  I told somebody it feels like I should have to pay to do what we do with the band.  It is just an awesome thing to do as we worship God.

The issue wasn't so much whether I could possibly accomplish this as much as it was how tired was I going to be.  Imagine taking your kids to Orlando, Florida and letting them get really tired from the day's drive and some other activity and then asking them if they are too tired to go to Disney World.  How many kids would say that they were?  The issue is motivation.  We can easily be too tired for work or too tired for a meeting that we have each week and we can be too tired to do any of those tasks that we feel are mundane or boring to us.  However, when we find something that we love to do, we will often sacrifice sleep, food or whatever it takes to do it.

I accomplished the drive and got to church after a couple of hours of sleep and did not feel tired at all.  I then did the presentation which ran for about 3 hours.  Worship was great and so too was the health and fitness presentation and I never once thought about being tired.  I think it's something God does when we are motivated for Him.

So today, what are you too tired to do?  Yes, our outward man perishes and we get tired, but the inner man is motivated.  Motivated for what?
