Subject:  The Role Of Government

Leviticus 19:15 "Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour."

I think we're missing the mark on what government should be doing.  This isn't something recent.  I think we've been headed in this direction for quite awhile.  When the government began to make it their responsibility to take care of the poor, we started this course.  And it's not that the poor don't need to be taken care of, they do, but God's plan was never for them to be shown favoritism by those in power or judging as the scripture above says.  The poor get taken care of by God's people, His church.

From taxes that favor the poor, to social programs designed only for them, we show partiality or respect to them.  We likewise shouldn't show favoritism to the rich or "mighty."  Again a taxing system that allows the wealthy certain loopholes is what helps to keep us out of sorts.

We've got a fundamental crisis of principle in this country and I think the only answer is going to be to reestablish those principles with something solid.  Instead of the ACLU fighting everywhere to keep the Ten Commandments from being displayed, they need to start fighting for all levels of government to read and heed the living word of God.  There we will find what our government should be doing as well as what we are not doing in our personal lives that we should be doing.

Today, pray for our government.
