Subject:  Don't Buy Into Sin

Ecclesiastes 8:11  "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."

I set a personal record every time I fill up my minivan with gasoline these days.  The price of gas continues to skyrocket and most everyone just complains about it.  I asked myself this question, "when will the price of gas get too high for me?"  Then I answered, "it's already too high for me, it's just that I'm willing to pay for it."

Sadly, that's also the answer to many of our sin problems.  The scripture clearly tells us that the cost of sin is much too high, but we continue in it, because we don't think that it's too high to pay for; not right now anyway.  However, when we receive the bill for sin, then we realize that we can't afford it.

Our confusion comes because God often has a "deferred payment" plan.  You don't always have to pay for sin up front, as the scripture above says.  Sometimes you can wait for years to make the payment for your sin and in the meantime, you forget that there will be a payment so you continue piling up the bills of more and more sin.

When is the price of sin too high for us?  It's too high for us right now.  We simply have to see that we don't want to pay for it now and we don't want to pay for it later.  Lets just not buy into sin.  We don't want to have to pay that bill ever, besides, it was already purchased and paid for.  Why should we make new bills?
