Subject: A Chance To Testify
Acts 26:2 - "I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews."
I must say up front that I have been somewhat ignorant concerning the hype around the book and soon-to-be-released movie, The DaVinci Code. For the last couple of years I've been in and out of church services where they had messages and classes designed to expose its error and it has been in the news continually for most of that time. For whatever reason, probably busyness, I haven't looked into the whole DaVinci code phenomenon that is going on. However as I understand it, I should get involved because it appears that it is another opportunity for believers to reach out with the "real" message of Jesus Christ.
Recent news headlines identify that many Christian churches and organizations are pushing for a boycott of the movie. I'm not sure how effective that would be and I think we should take a different approach. I think that we should simply see the lure of this fictional work as appealing to man's desire to satisfy their spiritual hunger. With that being the case, lets welcome the dialogue that is created by such a movie. What a great chance for us to talk about Christ, which is what we want to do anyway. I've never subscribed to the "three issues you don't talk about" rule anyway. We should be like Paul was when he was given an opportunity to testify before the king. He was happy about it, because he had an opportunity to share what Christ had done for him.
Today maybe that's the point. If we understand what Christ has done for us then arguments about the technical points of a fictional movie are irrelevant. However, if we use the issue to testify of what He has done in our lives, that they can't argue with, but perhaps now for the moment they'll listen.
