Subject:  The Last Mother's Day

Lamentations 1:3 - "Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.

Lamentations 2:12 - "They say to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their mothers' bosom."

We so often look to mothers as great rescuers.  As children, when something bad happens, they so often come to our relief with the right type of aid or soothing words that always seem to fix things.  Moms simply make bad things better.  God has given mothers a special ability to care and nurture.  I thought about this as I read through Lamentations and noticed how the scripture always uses the example of a mother to describe the early Jewish nations.

You can see from the passages above that once again when trouble hits, the people are seeking help from their mothers, but sadly in the case above, this is one affliction that your mom can get you out of.  It is the affliction caused by turning away from the commandments of God.

Lamentations is a great read when you think about what is happening in our country today and how God judges nations.  Of course it's not popular to say that God is judging America for it's excesses and turning from the commandments of God, but as we continue to try to redefine marriage as God created it, we are indeed transgressors.  This is but one example and an important one because if we think that marriage is okay between two men, then what happens to Mother's Day?  We need to remember that God still judges nations for their transgressions.

Today we as a nation can continue to pursue our own ends and choose our own way, but could it be now that we are seeing the last Mother's Day?
