Subject: Heal Yourself First
Luke 4:23a "And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself..."
I'm not sure of the exact context of the terms "Physician heal thyself" in the passage above but those words I use often as I refer to people who try to help others when they have too many issues to deal with themselves. That's kind of the story about the Army soldier who killed five of his fellow soldiers this week in Iraq. He seemingly had quite a few mental health issues and they had already taken away his weapon for that reason. As we now know he got another weapon and went into the mental health clinic and killed five.
This happens in the sports world sometimes too. An athlete tries to play a game with an injury and he or she often ends up not only doing more damage to their personal injury, but also crippling the team.
The reality for us on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level is that we need to be healed to be at our best. The other part of that reality is that we most often don't know how to treat the issues that we have. That's why we need The Great Physician.
So key for us today is to schedule an appointment. He's not like those waiting rooms you find in the world. He will see you know. Lets all get healed.
