Subject:  Looking For Loyalty In All The Wrong Places

Deuteronomy 31:8 "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

I was initially stunned when I saw via email that all of the department heads, of which I am one, at our high school had been notified that they would have to reapply for their current teaching positions at the school.  My particular department was not on the list, so I enquired into this event wanting to know what was happening.  The Dean of Instruction informed me that this was the Principal's desire to make sure he had the best people and that the teachers were notified in advance.  That explanation did not assuage my sense or lack thereof of loyalty to the teachers.  I followed with a leadership discussion to the Dean about how leaders can engender loyalty among their subordinates.

After all of the initial shock was gone, I realized that I was looking for loyalty in all the wrong places.  Yes, we'd like to get unwavering devotion and commitment from our leaders and our bosses, but in the end, God Himself is the only one who will always be as the Marine's call it, "Semper Fi (Always Faithful)."

Today, we need to be prepared when the world lets us down, because Jesus Christ will still be there.  He has truly committed for the long haul.  He will never leave us nor forsake us.  That's good to know.  Remember that.
