Subject: A Day Of Silence? How About A Lifetime?
Romans 3:19 "Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God."
In case you haven't heard about this, April 25th will be the 12th Annual Day Of Silence. The Day Of Silence, as quoted by their own website, is designed to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in our schools. In case you're wondering about the LGBT, it stands for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender. Oh and yes, on April 25th, it's coming to a local school near you. I checked the list of schools who are supposedly observing this day and many in my school district are. My particular school is not.
This is troubling on many fronts. My biggest problem is understanding when it became alright for middle school youth and teenagers to be public about their "sexual orientation or preference." In the "old days," it didn't matter if you were straight or homosexual, sex was for grownups when they were married. Now if you look at the Day Of Silence website, you'll see that this year's observance will honor an 8th grade boy who was killed because of his "sexual expression/orientation." While that is sad, years ago, the "killing" would've happened by the parents if they found out that their children were sexually expressing themselves.
Many will say that we are now a more open society and we can talk about things and that the LGBT people can now come out of the closet. God says that sin best belongs "in the closet." In the closet in the sense that we should all understand the guilt associated with sin and when we realize that we are in sin, it shuts our mouths. We should keep quiet unless we're openly acknowledging to God that we are guilty of transgressing His laws and rules for our lives.
The Day Of Silence crowd doesn't need a single day to have their mouths shut, they should try a lifetime if they continue in a way that is contrary to God's design and purposes.
If you have school-aged children, check today to ensure that your school is not actively supporting this, not just a Day Of Silence, but more aptly, a Day Of Sin.
