Subject: Still At War
1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
Yesterday marked the 5-year anniversary of the war in Iraq. While some of the presidential candidates think we should withdraw immediately, others feel like we should be there longer and still there are others who feel like we should be there much longer. I made the comment to my friend that "it shouldn't surprise you that I, a Marine, believe that we should always be at war." That isn't just war for war's sake, but because I believe that our enemy, Al Quaida, is much like Satan. During the conversation I compared Al Quaida to Satan.
Satan walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. If you've ever watched Animal Kingdom or any of those type of shows, you see how the lion sits back and waits for a situation to exploit. He sees a weakened gazelle or wildebeest and they're history. Our enemy Al Quaida does much the same. They don't simply war directly against us, but they look for bad situations world-wide to exploit. Unrest in Pakistan, now in Tibet, next, anywhere there is a weakened or chaotic state, they will be there making a bad situation worse. That's what Satan does.
Marital strife, financial difficulties, a small argument over some trivial matter are situations that Satan plans to make worse. Even when we are enjoying peace and tranquility, know that Satan is still looking for opportunities to destroy you. We can differ in this country on whether or not we should be at war abroad or even at home, but we can't differ on whether or not we should still be at war with Satan.
Today, you might not be at war with him, though you should be, but he is definitely at war with you, so we should still be at war.
