Subject:  More Diligence, Less Haste

Proverbs 21:5 "The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want."

Okay lets all act really mad.  Of course it has to be an act because surely no one is upset or surprised that we, the taxpayers, have funded the extravagances of the rich and famous executives of AIG?  After all when the nearly one trillion-dollar stimulus plan was being debated, the administration said it would be "catastrophic" if we failed to act now.  We had to move with all speed.  That's why they have "scenic routes."  You drive slower so as not to "miss things."

So lets say now that we are really, really mad.  Are we mad because we're giving more money to people who don't deserve it?  Well I think we have a trend there.  Remember the auto bailout of recent history?  We gave them billions why?  Oh yea.  Nobody wanted to buy their product so they loss money.   What about the housing and mortgaging institutions?  A whole lot of people are being "helped" who bought more house than they could afford and we came to their rescue.  In the financial sector, banks were doing crazy things and taking chances with money and we had to provid for them and then the other day, you've just got to check this one out.  Listen to this:  "The IRS will be giving tax relief to those who were bilked out of money by the now infamous, Bernie Madoff."  Yes those who gambled get federal relief.  How long can we continue to reward bad behavior?

People I just find it hard to get upset with AIG when our government continues to behave poorly.  Whether it is because we are moving too quickly or because we are incompetent, we've got to be more diligent.  I mean, was the government really surprised that executives were getting $165 million bonuses from their stimulus plan?  Doubtful, after all the language to allow the bonuses was done at the request of "administration officials."  That's what Christopher Dodd said yesterday.  By the way, that's the same Christopher Dodd who was the largest campaign recipient of money from guess who?  AIG would be the correct answer.

Okay lets get our eyes open and we won't be so surprised in the future.  More diligence, less haste.
